MILAN - After the international break, the league will resume Sunday 5 April 2009 with Milan hosting Lecce at San Siro in the Sunday night match of the 30th matchday of Serie A at 21.00.
The Giallorossi, currently coached by Luigi De Canio, return to Milan three years later due to their relegation to Serie B.
The last meeting between the two sides, in fact, was in the 2005/2006 season. It was 26 November 2005, when Milan were coming off a 4-0 away win against Fenerbahce in the Champions League, and beat the Salentini 2-1. The Rossoneri ended the first half in front thanks to Andrea Pirlo's 4th minute goal. In the second half the Giallorossi found the equaliser in the 67th minute through Konan, but Filippo Inzaghi gave Milan victory in the 95th minute.
In the preceding season, instead, the match was played on the 17th matchday, the day the league resumed after the Christmas break, on 6 January 2005. Also on that occasion the match was won by the Rossoneri, that time 5-2. Milan finished the first half two goals ahead thanks to Crespo (23', 36'). In the second half the third goal of the Rossoneri was scored by Shevchenko in the 50th minute, then again Crespo scored in the 57th minute to make it 4-0. Lecce reacted and scored two goals in the 75th minute with Bojinov and the 83rd minute with Cassetti, but Tomasson scored the last goal in the 89th minute.
Also in the 2003/2004 season the match between Milan and the Salentini, which took place on the 4th matchday, finished in favor of the Rossoneri who won 3-0. It was 28 September 2003 and Milan's victory was sealed by Shevchenko's brace (21', 69') and Tomasson's goal in the 90th minute.
In the 2002/2003 season the teams didn't meet due to Lecce's relegation to Serie B for one season. In the 2001/2002 season, however, Milan and Lecce met at San Siro on the 34th matchday, on 5 May 2002 and the match again finished 3-0. Goals by Kaladze (6'), Ambrosini (43') and Shevchenko (49').
Victory for Milan also on 10 December 2000 when on the 10th matchday of the 2000/2001 season the Rossoneri won 4-1 with goals by Leonardo (20') and José Mari (88') and Shevchenko's brace (27', 31' pen.). Conticchio scored for Lecce in the 22nd minute.
In the 1999/2000 season came the last draw between the teams. It was 23 January 2000 and the match on the 18th matchday saw Lecce hold the Rossoneri 2-2 at San Siro. The Giallorossi took the lead with a brace by Lucarelli in the 30th and 56th minutes, but the Rossoneri answered first with Maldini in the 62nd minute and Bierhoff in the 69th minute who made it 2-2.
To find the last victory of Lecce at San Siro we have to go back to the 1997/1998 season, when on the 6th matchday on 19 October 1997 Lecce beat Milan 2-1 with goals by Govedarica in the 2nd minute, Casale's penalty in the 45th minute and Cyprien's own goal in the 76th minute.
